Why Clients Win

A better alternative to complicated marketing.

I have seen coaches spend a tremendous amount of time and money on expert services — some paid over $100k and never made a dime. Others attended elite Masterminds promising life-changing connections, or strived to learn web design, funnel marketing, and social media, only to find themselves with less clients and income than before they began. If all these services are so great, why do the most successful coaches I know have poor results when they try them? The flaw lies in the systems being sold — not in the coach.

My approach is holistic, and there are three things I value above all when it comes to the business of coaching:

Sustainability

You should never destroy your reputation or relationships as the price of building your business. Learn to invite people in ways that are respectful and kind — because you genuinely believe they would love the experience you offer. Anything excessive is bad for you, bad for your business, and bad for other people. Do what works, not what doesn't. Only do things that feel good and have a positive effect — otherwise you'll quit. The most sustainable coaching practices are built on warmth, word of mouth, and an unwavering commitment to integrity over urgency.

Excellence

Instead of focusing on daily free content or building elaborate online funnels, coach until it's second nature. The more you coach, the better you'll get. Hire a coach so you can experience what it feels like to be guided. Take personal growth courses, travel, and read widely. Never stop learning new skills, building deeper relationships, and trying new things. Don't worry about what anyone else is doing — care about what you're doing. Always attempt to deliver the best service you possibly can. Your depth as a human being is, and will always be, your most powerful business advantage.

Ease

Coaching should create your required income in ten hours a week or less — unless you want to spend more time working. Coaches are givers. We need to learn how to value our very rare skills and gifts in a world that urgently needs what we do. Remember: people happily pay for what they value. You are transforming lives, and that is worthy of a generous income. Similarly, you will continue to grow into your identity, and your work may include more than coaching. Don't limit yourself by being too busy. Ease and prosperity are not opposites — they are the natural result of building a practice that is truly aligned with who you are.

If someone tries to tell you that you can't have a successful coaching business without social media, online marketing, a podcast, or any other singular step-by-step solution, run. You are already a coach. Choose to be a great one, and the business will reveal itself.
